Today we will see how you can configure your Gmail account to use it in Microsoft Outlook, the desktop application. Although we already saw how to do it in the web version of Outlook, the application requires some additional steps.
Microsoft Outlook is the complete email client included in the Microsoft Office suite. It is virtually compatible with any email address, but it will not work with some Gmail accounts until you do an additional process with www RR Com Login. Why is this happening
Before we roll up our sleeves, Microsoft’s own help explains what the problem is. Two requirements are necessary to connect a Gmail account in Microsoft Outlook: that Google’s two-step verification is activated and that you create an application password
- Activate two-step verification
The two-step verification has been an additional layer of security for Google accounts for many years and basically, it means that you must confirm that it is you with a second device: your mobile. To activate it, open this web address in the browser and press Start. Then you must log in with your Google account.
The following is to write your telephone number on the form, without forgetting to change the country code in case the one that appears is not correct. You can choose between two types of checks: through a text message or with a phone call. Then press ‘Next’.
Then you must write the code on the form. If you chose verification by text message, you will receive the code in an SMS. If you chose by call, you will receive a call in which the code will be dictated. After entering it, press ‘Next’.
If everything went well, you will see a window like the previous one. That’s it, just press Activate to activate two-step verification in your Google account, which in addition to allowing you to use Gmail in Outlook, will better protect your account from intruders.
- Create an application password
Microsoft Outlook needs a special type of Google password to gain access to the account. Google calls this ‘Application passwords’ and to generate them you must go to this web page and log in with your Google account. Then, in the first drop-down (1) choose Mail and in the second (2) choose Windows or Mac Computer, if you are on an Apple computer. Then press Generate.
Unlike your normal Google/Gmail password, which you choose, Google automatically generates the application password and you can find it in the yellow box. Copy it to the Windows clipboard so you can use it in Microsoft Outlook in the next step, or write it on paper, because you won’t be able to check it again.
- Configure Outlook
Now that you have everything ready, you just need to configure your Gmail account in Microsoft Outlook. Click on the File menu to open the Account Information menu and there you will find the Add Account button. Press it.
The first step of the assistant is very simple. You just have to enter your email address, that is, your Gmail address. You don’t need to do anything else, for now, just press Connect.
Now comes the most important point: the password. Do not write the normal password for your Google account, but the application password that you generated in step two of this article and that you should have copied to the clipboard. Type it and press ‘Connect’.
Outlook will stay a few seconds thinking but then, if everything went well, you will see a confirmation window like the following. Congratulations, you have completed the process of configuring Gmail in Microsoft Outlook. A process that is not too difficult, but something long.
