Outlook, unlike Gmail, does not allow unsubscribing by default. This makes the user more likely to send emails with incorrect information to the wrong recipients or simply to regret it. However, you can unsubscribe from email by creating a rule in the program included with the Microsoft Office suite. Check out this tutorial on how to undo email in Outlook.
Step 1: Open Outlook and click on the “File” menu at the top left of the screen.
Step 2: Click on “Manage Rules and Alerts”.
Step 3: A new window will appear. If you have more than one email synced, select the account to which you want to apply the change.
Step 4: Click on the “New Rule” button.
Step 5: In the wizard that opens, click on the option “Apply rules to emails I send” and then “Next”.
Step 6: Do not mark anything on this screen. Click “Next” and then confirm the warning.
Step 7: On the next screen, check the option to “postpone delivery for a number of minutes”.
Step 8: Note that in the bottom frame, the term “a number of” acts as a link. Tap it and choose how many minutes you want to postpone sending an email. Remember that the higher the number, the greater the tolerance for the user to cancel the message.
Step 9: After setting the delay, proceed to the last screen and enter a rule name to identify it. Click on “Finish”.
Step 10: Outlook will display a warning about the rule being effective only in the PC program and not in online versions. Confirm.
Step 11: At the next screen, click “Apply” and wait for Outlook to update its servers. Then click “OK”.
Tip: If you want to apply the same rule to another synced email account, select it and click the copy button. In the new window, choose which address you want to apply to and click “OK”.
Ready! You now know how to create a rule that allows cancellation. Here’s how to avoid sending the message.
How to cancel a sent message
Step 1: With the rule active, enter your email as normal and tap the “Send” button.
Step 2: Tap the left navigation menu, look for the outbox.
Step 3: Note that your email is being held there for the given interval. Right-click and select “Delete” or simply press “Delete”.
Ready! Your message will not be sent to the recipient and you can edit it again from the Deleted Items folder.
